Three bills have been proposed in New Jersey which could benefit ambulatory surgery centers, according to Jeffrey Shanton, chair, Advocacy and Legislative Affairs Committee, New Jersey Association of Ambulatory Surgery Centers.
The bills are as follows:
S2572, introduced by Senators Joe Pennachio and Tom Kean — This would allow ASCs to deduct Medicaid payments from their gross receipts for the assessment.
S2573, introduced by Sensators Pennachio and Kean — This would allow ASCs to deduct up to $125,000 of Medicare payments from their gross receipts for the assessment.
S2577/A3491, jointly introduced by Senator Richard Codey and Assemblyman Herb Conaway Jr. — This would codify what cosmetic procedures could and could not be performed in a doctor's office. It would mandate that certain procedures could only be performed in an accredited (by The Joint Commission, AAAHC, AAASF, HFAP, etc.) facility. It could mean more business for ASCs, as the physicians would have to perform the procedures in an ASC or hospital, according to Mr. Shanton.
