Sutter Health, based in Sacramento, Calif., has approved financing for a new ASC in Elk Grove, Calif., according to a report from The Sacramento Bee.
The $10.8 million surgery center is scheduled to break ground in May 2011, with completion of the facility targeted for a year later. Sutter Health is planning for a hospital on the same property as the ASC but has not set a date to begin construction.
Sutter Health isn't the only health system planning a new surgery center for the area, according to the report. Catholic Healthcare West recently began construction on its own surgery and imaging center in Elk Grove and has plans to build a hospital nearby as well. Catholic Healthcare West's surgery and imaging center may open by spring 2012.
