Ophthalmology Seeks Revised Government Assessment of Glaucoma Screenings, Treatment

The American Academy of Ophthalmology and the American Glaucoma Society wants the government to evaluate glaucoma screening and treatment, after draft reviews by the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality concluded there is no evidence for or against glaucoma screenings, according to a news release.

AGRQ shares its review with the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force, whose recommendations have implications for Medicare and other payor coverage decisions. If the task force acts on these reviews, it could hinder access to care for those at risk for glaucoma.
