Michigan's Blake Woods Surgery Center Acquires LenSx Laser for Cataract Surgery

Eye surgeons at Blake Woods Surgery Center in Jackson, Mich., are the first in the state to use the LenSx laser to assist in laser-assisted cataract surgery, according to a MLive report.

TLC Eyecare & Laser Centers selected Blake Woods Surgery Center to house the state's first LenSx laser for cataract surgery at its facility. The laser is the most sophisticated piece of technology for cataract surgery, giving the physician the use of 3-D imaging to make incisions and break up the natural lens. According to the report, more precise incisions with the laser maximize safe and predictable results.

The laser also allows physicians to remove the natural lens with less swelling and faster healing for patients.

TLC Eyecare charges patients $950 for the use of the laser. The laser was installed over the summer, making it the fifteenth laser in the country and the first in Michigan. Blake Woods Surgery Center performs several surgeries in a typical day.
