Miami Clinic Operators Convicted in $51M Medicare Fraud for HIV Infusion

Two Miami clinic operators have been convicted in a fraud scheme in which they were charged with submitting $51.8 million in phony claims to Medicare for HIV infusion and received $21.1 million in payments, according to the South Florida Business Journal.


Scarlet Duarte and Rechart Garcia, operators of six Miami-area clinics, were found guilty of conspiracy, healthcare fraud and money laundering, according to a report by the Miami Herald.

The two face up to 20 years in prison, and are scheduled for sentencing in December.

Fifteen others were previously convicted or are awaiting sentencing in the scheme, which took place at six clinics.
