Ohio hospital seeks zoning permission for surgery center, medical office building — 4 insights

UH Mayfield (Ohio) Village Medical Center is seeking to rezone part of its land to build an outpatient surgery center and medical office building, Cleveland.com reports.

What you should know:

1. Two clinicians own the center. They're seeking village permission to rezone a grassy area next to the center. The property is currently zoned for single-family use.

2. A lawyer representing the clinicians claimed the property "cannot be economically developed as a single-family house," citing its proximity to a restaurant and two government buildings.

3. The clinicians would like to build a 7,000-square-foot surgery center and a 12,000-square-foot medical office building on the land.

4. Village Mayor Brenda Bodnar said the proposal had "promise," but noted the city wouldn't commit to any plan unless the two sides came to a binding development agreement.
