One way new ASCs can succeed is by pursuing hospital-physician partnerships, according to Stephanie Martin, vice president of operations at Westchester, Ill.-based Regent Surgical Health.
Ms. Martin shared four additional tips for success:
1. Get ASC physician partners to commit to a certain case volume.
2. Understand the risks of creating a single-specialty ASC, which could be more heavily affected by regulation changes.
3. Report and analyze data to drive quality improvements.
4. Don't invest too much in EMR technology that doesn't make sense in a surgery center setting.
