The Cleveland Clinic is planning to add new facilities to its Cole Eye Institute, the hospital announced Wednesday.
More than 100,000 square feet will be added to a Cole Eye Institute building to house seven new operating rooms, 60 exam rooms, an ophthalmic imaging center, a research center and facilities for education and training of residents and fellows.
The expansion comes amid a rise in patient and surgical volume. Patient visits have risen from 130,000 annually in 2008 to 310,000 in 2018, the Cleveland Clinic said. Surgical volume also has risen from 5,000 to over 16,000 in the same time period.
The Cleveland Clinic said the expansion will be supported by philanthropy and donations and offered no cost estimates. Groundbreaking is expected to begin next year.
