The 3 factors healthcare organizations should consider when choosing physician leaders

Medscape offered three insights on what factors and skills make a physician a good leader, and what healthcare organizations should keep in mind when appointing physicians in leadership positions.

Here are the insights Medscape shared:

1. Physicians don't need lofty titles to be good leaders. Physicians hold more sway when they make decisions based on their values and judgment, as well as their intelligence and expertise.

2. Because medical school doesn't often train physicians to be good leaders, healthcare organizations should take the time to identify which physicians exhibit natural leadership skills.

3. Physician leaders also need to have a mix of management and business skills that allow them to both motive and mentor their teams.
