UCLA patient sues Olympus over 'superbug' infection associated with scopes: 3 things to know

A patient of Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center in Los Angeles has filed a lawsuit against Olympus in regards to the recent carbapenem-resistant Enterobacteriaceae outbreak linked to contaminated duodenoscopes, according to a Bloomberg Business report. Here are three things to know about the lawsuit.

1. The patient was exposed to a contaminated endoscope when he underwent multiple procedures at the medical center last year.

2. The lawsuit alleges that Olympus failed to provide proper instructions for sterilization, according to the report. The lawsuit names Olympus and three members of the company's team as defendants.

3. The lawsuit is Young vs. Olympus Corp. of the Americas, BC573399, California Superior Court, Los Angeles County, according to the report.
