St. Joseph Hospital in Bethpage, N.Y. and Mercy Medical Center in Rockville Centre, N.Y. named Lynn O'Connor, MD, as the new chief of colon and rectal surgery. Both hospitals are part of the Catholic Health Services health system.
Dr. O'Connor has over 20 years of experience in colorectal surgery and colorectal health. Her clinical interests include the increase in colon cancer rates among young adults, colon cancer screening and minimally invasive surgery.
"Dr. O'Connor is committed to providing patients with the foremost treatment, technology and information related to preventive public health issues and colon and rectal health. She fills an important need at both hospitals and we are excited to have a respected surgeon like herself leading us in prevention and specialized treatment efforts," said Peter Scaminaci, president of Mercy Medical Center and St. Joseph Hospital.
Dr. O'Connor is a recipient of the Florence Griffith Freedman Award for Cancer Research from Temple University in Philadelphia, and is a member of the Society of Black Academic Surgeons, the American College of Surgeons and Women in Surgery, among others.
