Texas hospital adds physicians to start liver transplant program — 3 insights

El Paso, Texas-based The Hospitals of Providence added Aleksandr Reznichenko, MD, and Ruben Ramirez-Vega, MD, to its staff to lead the city's first liver transplant program, KVIA reports.

Here's what you should know:

1. The Hospitals of Providence plans to conduct its first liver transplant in 2019. If successful, they could perform up to 10 more procedures throughout the year.

2. Dr. Reznichenko is a general surgeon, specializing in transplants. He completed medical school at Moscow, Russia-based Russian National Research Medical University. He completed his residency at Stony Brook (N.Y.) University and his fellowship at University of Texas Medical School in Houston.

3. Dr. Ramirez-Vega is a gastroenterologist. He earned his medical degree at Juárez, Mexico-based Universidad Autónoma de Ciudad Juárez. He completed his residency at El Paso-based Texas Tech University and his fellowship at Dallas-based University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center.
