Jose Rodriguez, MD, is providing patients with virtual colonoscopy to screen for colorectal cancer, according to The Monitor.
Here's what you need to know:
1. Dr. Rodriguez is the managing physician at McAllen-based Texas Gastroenterology Institute. He is board-certified in both internal medicine and gastroenterology.
2. He hopes that virtual colonoscopy encourages more patients to seek out colorectal cancer screening, since it is less expensive and less invasive than optical colonoscopy.
3. Dr. Rodriguez told The Monitor that Texas Gastroenterology Institute is aiming to "throw out a larger screening net," because, in recent years, he has noticed younger people with colorectal cancer. He believes more people should get screened, even before the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force's recommended age of 50.
