The results of a survey of physicians and providers conducted by physician recruiting firm The Medicus Firm indicate income for gastroenterologists declined in 2011, according to a news release.
Physician compensation on the whole slowed in 2011. The average net change in physician compensation from 2010 to 2011 was a decrease of 1.70 percent.
Specialties other than GI reporting income declines include cardiology, obstetrics/gynecology and general surgery. Specialties reporting growth include anesthesiology, neurosurgery and pediatrics.
"This year, physicians reported the lowest year-over-year income growth we have seen in the history of our physician survey," said Jim Stone, president of The Medicus Firm, in the release.
This year's survey, conducted in April and May of more than 2,500 physicians, was the firm's ninth annual physician compensation survey.
