A prospective observational study has found that using right-sided colon retroflexion is generally achievable and safe, according to a report by Gastrointestinal Endoscopy.
After cecal intubation, an examination of the cecum to the hepatic flexure was performed in the forward view and all identified polyps were removed. The colonoscope was then reinserted to the cecum and retroflexed, and examination was performed to the hepatic flexure in retroflexion.
In the study, retroflexion was successful in 94.4 percent of patients, while looping in the insertion tube was the apparent cause of 89 percent of failed attempts.
