Study: Prolonged Sitting a Risk Factor for Colon, Breast Cancer

Canadian researchers said prolonged periods of sitting increase a person's risk of developing cancer, including colon cancer, according to findings presented at the American Institute for Cancer Research annual conference and a WebMD report.

While exercise has often been linked to a decreased risk of cancer, the new research says that exercise and avoiding prolonged periods of sitting can best reduce cancer risk. The American Institute for Cancer Research recommends that adults who sit most of the day take short breaks every hour.
