A study presented at Digestive Disease Week suggests a new biopsy needle used with an endoscopic ultrasound scope may improve biopsies of lesions in the gastrointestinal tract, according to a report by Endo Nurse.
The study, presented by Cook Medical, indicated the company's 19-gauge EchoTip ProCore High Definition Ultrasound Biopsy Needle can help diagnose multiple types of cancers in a variety of target tissues with great accuracy.
In this multicenter European study, researchers found the needle allows pathologists to sample a variety of lesions without compromising diagnostic accuracy, which could lead to earlier detection of GI malignancies.
