Assembly Biosciences named former Gilead Sciences Chief Scientific Officer John McHutchison, MD, its new president and CEO, succeeding company co-founder Derek Small.
What you should know:
1. Dr. McHutchison is a gastroenterologist and a researcher. He comes to Assembly after a nine-year tenure at Gilead Sciences, where he led new drug development efforts.
2. Dr. McHutchison is a noted researcher, with most of his work focusing on hepatitis B and hepatitis C.
3. Mr. Small helped establish the company in 2014. He'll return to his venture creation firm, Luson Bioventures, but will continue to serve on Assembly Biosciences' board.
4. Assembly Biosciences' work centers on hepatitis B and diseases associated with the microbiome.
