MM&M bestowed its platinum award for outstanding contributions to healthcare on Richard Wender, MD.
Here's what you should know about him:
1. Dr. Wender is the American Cancer Society's chief cancer control officer.
2. He served the organization for the last 21 years. He was the first primary care physician to be elected as the organization's president and he became its first chief cancer control officer in 2013.
3. Dr. Wender also serves as chairman of the National Colorectal Cancer Roundtable.
4. While at the helm of the roundtable, Dr. Wender helped launch the 80% by 2018 campaign. MM&M said this of the campaign, "Thanks in no small part to Dr. Wender's leadership and ability to inspire and unite people, the campaign has become one of the most successful public health initiatives of all time."
5. Outside of his practice, Dr. Wender builds homes for disadvantaged people in Philadelphia.
