Gastroenterologist David A. Brenner, MD, has been elected to the Institute of Medicine, according to an Everything San Diego report.
Dr. Brenner, a physician-scientist, is vice chancellor for health sciences and dean of the school of medicine at the University of California, San Diego.
He is a leader in the field of gastroenterological research, specializing in diseases of the liver, according to his bio. He has focused on understanding the molecular pathogenesis of fibrotic liver disease and the genetic basis of liver disorders. Dr. Brenner served as editor in chief of Gastroenterology for five years.
He earned his MD from Yale University School of Medicine. Dr. Brenner then completed a residency at Yale-New Haven Medical Center, a fellowship in genetics and biochemistry at National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases and a fellowship in gastroenterology at UC San Diego.
