Thomas Imperiale, MD, was recently named as the inaugural Lawrence Lumeng Professor in Gastroenterology and Hepatology of Indiana University's School of Medicine, EurekAlert reports. Here's what you should know.
1. Dr. Imperiale is a health services researcher and a clinical gastroenterologist. His research has been funded by several prominent organizations and his findings have been published nationally and internationally.
2. Dr. Imperiale was awarded the endowed professorship through Indiana University. The endowment is dedicated to Lawrence Lumeng, MD. Dr. Lumeng was the former division director of gastroenterology and hepatology for IU from 1983 to 2007.
3. Dr. Imperiale was honored to receive the designation and joked that Dr. Lumeng "knew what I was going to do … before I knew it."
