George Chang, MD, associate professor of surgery at the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, and a leader in robotic colorectal surgery, told the audience at the 2011 American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons that robotic surgery for rectal cancer still has many limitations, according to a Clinical Oncology News report.

Although Dr. Chang does think robotic technology eventually can assist during surgery, he doesn't expect robotics to ever entirely replace conventional laparoscopy for rectal cancer.
