Cleveland Clinic researchers developed an online calculator designed to help physicians assess a patient's risk for colorectal cancer, according to a Gastroenterology & Endoscopy News report.
The calculator takes into account risk factors such as family history, age and weight to determine the chances of patient developing colorectal cancer within the next 10 years.
Researchers developed the ColoRectal Cancer Predicted Risk Online calculator using data from the Multiethnic Cohort Study, which followed more than 180,000 people.
The researchers hope tools such as this will help physicians better identify patients that need to undergo screening colonoscopy.
