Boston Scientific acquired EMcision to expand its gastrointestinal endoscopy offerings.
Here's what you should know.
1. EMcision is a privately held company in the U.K. and Canada that created the Habib EndoHPB probe, a novel endoscopic bipolar radiofrequency device. The probe helps coagulate tissue in the GI tract.
2. The probe is used to treat palliative care patients with pancreaticobiliary cancers by helping physicians drain bile out of ducts in the GI tract, which prevents jaundice.
4. Boston Scientific Senior Vice President and Endoscopy Division President Art Butcher said, "As we continue to search for ways to treat pancreaticobiliary cancers, we also seek to improve the quality of life for patients living with a cancer diagnosis today. We are committed to exploring innovative options to help increase the chance of early diagnosis, improve treatment and advance the ability to remove cancers located in challenging areas of the gastrointestinal tract."
5. The probe already has FDA approval and a CE mark.
