AGA endorses IBD clinical decision support tool

The American Gastroenterological Association endorsed a clinical decision support tool providers can use to recommend biologic therapies for patients with inflammatory bowel disease, the society announced Feb. 18.

The web-based tool was built using data from phase 3 clinical trials around IBD drug development. The tool has been used by physicians in more than 2,300 sessions with patients across desktop and mobile devices.

The tool was launched as part of a national educational initiative and was supported by a grant from Takeda Pharmaceuticals.

The tool was developed by Parambir Dulai, MD, assistant professor at UC San Diego School of Medicine. On the tool, he said, "The preponderance of data collected from patients indicated that a tool developed in this way could improve point of care decision-making and, ultimately, patient outcomes."
