4 things to know about Salix Pharmaceuticals

Bridgewater, N.J.-based Salix Pharmaceuticals is the GI affiliate of Valeant Pharmaceuticals and one of the largest GI-focused pharmaceutical companies in the world.

Here are four things to know.

1. Salix develops products for hepatic encephalopathy, IBS with diarrhea, opioid-induced constipation and ulcerative colitis.

2. Salix comprised approximately 18 percent of Valeant's $8.7 billion revenue for fiscal year 2017.

3. Valeant acquired Salix in 2015.

4. Salix is Valeant's most successful business after its Bausch + Lomb segment.
