Three young gastroenterologists have won the 2011 AGA Research Scholars awards from the American Gastroenterological Association Research Foundation, according to a release from the AGA.
The foundation gives each scientist $60,000 for two years to help support his or her research. Here are the physician-winners.
Ashwin Ananthakrishnan, MD, MPH, Massachusetts General Hospital, Boston, for "A prospective study of diet and risk of Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis."
Carla Coffin, MSc, MD, University of Calgary, Alberta, Canada, for "Hepatitis C Virus (HCV) Quasispecies and Lymphotropism in Human Immunodeficiency Virus Type 1 (HIV-1) Confected Patients."
Anne Henkel, MD, Northwestern University, Chicago, for "The role of endoplasmic reticulum stress in the pathogenesis of NASH."
