Here are three steps taken over the past year by Memorial Mission Surgery Center in Chattanooga, Tenn., to improve patient care, according to the ASC's leadership team.
1. Walkie-talkies are used to call from the procedure room to pre-op to notify the team when the room is ready to roll.
2. Anesthesia drugs are kept in lockboxes at the patients' bedside to ensure safety and efficiency.
3. Collaboration with partners to ensure upstream patient processes are evaluated for kinks. Currently, Mission is working with Memorial Health Care System (one of its owners) to improve the pre-testing process. Labs and EKGs are provided in different parts of the hospital and this often causes confusion and inconvenience for patients. One proposed solution is to have the EKG team go to the lab to administer testing as needed.
