Jamison, Pa.-based Physicians Endoscopy is in the midst of celebrating its 20th anniversary.
After opening as an LLC in 1998, the company found its mission in 1999 when CEO Barry Tanner and CFO Karen Sablyak joined. Mr. Tanner and Ms. Sablyak co-wrote the business plan and are recognized as the company's founders.
Mr. Tanner said, "PE's journey started as a little company sitting in a small office writing a business plan with one critical mission — to be the leader in supporting the single specialty of gastroenterology. It was a bold idea to dedicate an entire organization to only one specialty, but it was our strategic vision to do one thing and do it really well."
To date, Physicians Endoscopy has nearly 60 ASCs, performing more than 535,000 annual procedures. The company touts 275 employees and 600 gastroenterologist partners.
Some key dates in Physicians Endoscopy's history include:
2000 — The company launched its first de novo ASC
2006 — The company finalized its first three-way hospital joint venture
2012 — The company entered into the acquisition market, acquiring six centers
2017 — Frontier Healthcare joined the company, adding 15 centers. The PE Gastro practice management division was introduced.
Mr. Tanner said, "We have accomplished so much together during our first 20 years. As a company, we have empowered people to realize their full potential and helped partners reach lifetime goals. We believe we can offer something vastly superior because we are dedicated to just one specialty, and because we care deeply about the patient experience and the physicians who value our help. Today, I think more about the future and what we can accomplish together."
