Widespread access to and advances in mobile technology, electronic health records and clinical decision support systems lead the list have triggered a surge in telemedicine tools, according to an InformationWeek report.
Among the top 11 telemedicine tools named in the report are an online service enabling patients and physicians to consult remotely via webcam; a standalone home monitoring device that allows a physician to remotely measure and monitor patients' vital signs using a laptop or cellphone; and a tele-radiology tool allowing radiologists to view X-rays, CT scans, MRIs and diagnostic tests remotely.
