Wyoming ASC's health system warns of scam calls after ransomware attack — 4 things to know

Gillette, Wyo.-based Campbell County Health, the parent of Powder River Surgery Center, is warning patients about a possible scam in the wake of a ransomware attack that affected all 1,500 computers across the system.

Four things to know:

1. Community members have received calls offering to help restore patient portals or asking for health information, CCH said. These calls claim to come from CCH, but they do not.

2. The only calls CCH is placing are from Powder River Surgery Center and the Campbell County Memorial Hospital surgery department, both in Gillette. CCH partners will continue contacting patients about billing, collection and bad debt accounts.

3. CCH urged patients to "be vigilant about providing any information to an individual or business that you don't know." Patients who receive concerning emails or phone calls are encouraged to contact CCH directly.

4. Powder River Surgery Center and Powder River Orthopedic and Spine are among the services taking patients on a case-by-case basis as investigations into the ransomware attack continue.
