Spencer Hospital reopens surgery center after fire — 3 insights

After a small equipment fire closed Spencer (Iowa) Hospital's surgery center Jan. 21, the hospital reopened the surgery center Jan. 25, The Daily Reporter reports.

What you should know:

1. The hospital transferred 16 patients after the fire because the center filled with smoke.

2. The hospital completed its clean-up efforts Jan. 24 but needed to receive state approval before reopening.

3. Spencer Hospital President Bill Bumgarner said, "We’re grateful for the assistance of so many people, especially the local fire department, area ambulance services, law enforcement and neighboring hospitals."
