An IT incident at Metropolis, Ill.-based Orthopaedic Institute Surgery Center compromised 2,000 records, according to HHS' Office for Civil Rights Breach Portal.

1. The protected health information was compromised through email, HIPAA Journal reported. It was one of nine email-related incidents reported to OCR in June.
2. The incident was the 10th largest healthcare data breach reported in June, reportedly affecting 2,000 individuals.
3. No business associate was present at the time of the breach, according to the OCR portal.
4. HHS was notified about the incident June 8.
5. Orthopaedic Institute Surgery Center CEO Greg Thompson said in an email the ASC is "handling this issue appropriately," but declined to comment further.
