Medical errors third leading cause of death in America.
Medical errors rank third among the leading causes of death in the United States, according to some studies cited in a recent Vox article. They are ahead of car crashes, new disease outbreaks, breast cancer, AIDS, plane crashes and drug over doses. Read the full report on Becker's ASC Review.

UC Davis Medical Center admits potential Ebola case.
The Sacramento-based University of California Davis Health System confirmed a patient at the UC Medical Center is being tested for Ebola. Hospital officials maintain the patient — who is in good condition — poses no risk to the public or medical center patients. Several highly-trained members of the UC Davis staff volunteered to treat the individual. Read the full report on Becker's Hospital Review.

CMS plans to alter MU program.
CMS announced plans to allow eligible hospitals more time to implement 2014 edition software, improve alignment with CMS quality programs and reduce EHR reporting period to 90 days, amongst other changes. The American Medical Association voiced its support for the meaningful use program modifications.

$5B in MOBs sold in 2014.
In 2014, about $5 billion in medical office buildings were sold. There was around 8 million square feet of new medical office building last year, which increased slightly from 2013 but was way down from 2008 when 26.5 million square feet were delivered. Senior living and assisted living facilities are especially popular.

Western Connecticut Orthopedic Surgical Center begins performing partial knee replacements.
Danbury (Conn.) Orthopedics recently opened the Western Connecticut Orthopedic Surgical Center in Danbury. Now, the center has now begun to offer partial knee replacements. Danbury Orthopedics is a member of the Western Connecticut Orthopedic Specialists, which also includes two other orthopedic groups.

Eye surgery center to open in New Mexico.
New Mexico Laser Eye Center will open in Clovis in the spring of this year. Sloan Rush, MD, and Avery Rush, MD, of Rush Eye Associates in Amarillo, Texas, will travel to the surgery center to perform procedures twice a month.

Physicians open new ASC in Michigan.
Haitham Masri, MD, and Fatina Masri, MD, opened the Advanced Surgery Center in Dearborn, Mich. Physicians from Beaumont Hospital, Detroit Medical Center and Oakwood Hospital were also involved in establishing the new surgery center.
