4 things surgeons should know when selecting an ASC for procedures

With more procedures making their way to ASCs, surgeons should be aware of differences in technology, scheduling and staff before selecting a center for their procedures, according to the West Orange, N.J.-based Mountain Surgery Center.

Mountain Surgery Center outlined four things for surgeons to know before choosing an ASC on their blog:

1. Technology and facilities. While it's not necessary for the facilities to be new, it's important for an ASC to have all the latest, up to date equipment.

2. Scheduling. Through streamlined scheduling, physicians have the opportunity to see more patients, reducing down time and allowing for improved time management.

3. Specialized staff. Physicians should make sure an ASC is staffed with qualified nurses, physician assistants and scrub techs before deciding to do procedures there.

4. Surgeries performed. Before deciding to perform procedures at an ASC, surgeons should schedule a tour of the facility to determine if the center will accommodate the types of procedures they want to perform.
