Portland-based The Oregon Clinic opened a 19,000-square-foot endoscopy center in Newberg to expand its presence.
Here's what you should know:
1. The Oregon Clinic expects the clinic to employ at least seven gastroenterologists and see up to 20,000 patients annually.
2. The Oregon Clinic gastroenterologists have had a presence in Newberg since 2006, seeing patients at the Newberg medical office building and hospital. This will expand services vastly, decreasing travel time for patients throughout Yamhill county and the Oregon coast.
3. The Oregon Clinic gastroenterologist Jeff Douglass, MD, said, "We're thrilled to give our patients more options and easier access to care. This new facility will enable more people to get timely colonoscopies and the care they need, right in the community where they live." This is crucial because Yamhill County has been an underserved area: only 55 percent of Yamhill County adults are current on colon cancer screening, according to the Oregon Health Authority.
