Tupelo, Miss.-based Specialty Orthopedic Group is building a 33,000-square-foot facility scheduled to open in February 2019, according to the Daily Journal.
Here are five things to know:
1. The CEO of Specialty Orthopedic Group Sparky Luster said that 15,000 square feet of the new facility will be dedicated to clinic space, 12,000 square feet for a surgery center with four operating rooms and the remaining 6,000 square feet for physical therapy.
2. Specialty Orthopedic Group was formed in 2015 and began with two physicians. The practice now employs two physicians and is adding two more, employing 35 people overall. According to Mr. Luster, the practice is expected to employ 75 people when it reaches capacity at its new facility by summer 2019.
3. The practice specializes in orthopedic surgery of the hand, wrist and elbow, sports medicine, shoulder replacement, hip replacement, preservation and arthroscopy, knee replacement and revision total joint surgery.
4. The development services director for the city of Tupelo Shane Hooper said Specialty Orthopedic was granted a grading permit to begin site work on the five-and-a-half acre South Gloster Street site. The practice has already applied for and received a certificate of need and its plans are currently under review by the Tupelo planning department.
5. South Gloster Street also features North Mississippi Medical Center and Midtown Pointe, a medical and professional mall.
According to Mr. Hooper, projects like these help attract other private investors.
