Physicians United, a group headed by Michael Bollinger, MD, an orthopedic surgeon at Sebastopol, Calif.-based Palm Drive Hospital, has put forth a proposal for continuing operations at Palm Drive Hospital, which is to close April 28, according to a report from the Press Democrat.
Dr. Bollinger's proposal includes leasing the hospital for $1 per year, closing the medical-surgical department, and having Physicians United offer intensive care, radiology, lab and outpatient services along with a five-bed specialty surgery center. The group is willing to lend PDH more than $3 million with the placement of a lien on the hospital's property.
A competing proposal from Jim Gude, MD, head of PDH's ICU suggests transferring the hospital's management to its foundation and consolidation intensive care and medical-surgical services into the existing five-bed ICU.
Surrounding hospitals may pitch in to preserve outpatient PDH's outpatient services, according to the report, though PDH has not yet received any proposals.
