Ohio Surgery Center in Mansfield Acquired by MedCentral Health System

SurgiCenter of Mansfield (Ohio) has been acquired by MedCentral Health System, based in Ontario, Ohio, according to a report from the Mansfield News Journal.

MedCentral acquired the land, building and business operation of the ambulatory surgery center. The surgery center is now called MedCentral Surgery Center.

The decision to sell the ASC to the hospital was driven by "governmental changes in how such facilities are paid primarily by Medicare," according to comments from Robert Maxwell, MD, a general surgeon and one of the 13 physician-owners of the ASC, in the report.

The ASC opened in 1998 and performs about 4,000 procedures annually.
