Northeast Georgia Medical Center Braselton building ASC — 5 insights

Northeast Georgia Medical Center Braselton is building an ASC as part of a bevy of expansions, The Gainesville Times reports.

What you should know:

1. The ASC will focus on general surgery, spine and orthopedics. It could open as soon as spring 2021.

2. The 4-year-old hospital is in the midst of a $12-million expansion that will add 24 acute beds.

3. The hospital is also weighing an emergency department expansion.

4. NGMC Braselton Executive Director of Operations Kevin Matson elaborated on the ASC. "ASCs offer a unique way for hospitals to offer a high-quality surgery care but without all the cost that goes along with operating a surgery center inside a hospital. This often allows for more cost-effective treatment for the patient as well."

5. The Georgia Department of Community Health still has to approve the ASC and acute-bed expansions.
