Memorial Sloan-Kettering has submitted a certificate of need application for its replacement outpatient surgery center, according to a Crain's New York Business report.
If the state Department of Health approves the CON application, MSK will relocate its Surgical Day Hospital to the new site. The surgery center is currently on the second floor of the main hospital. In its application, MSK said that its surgeons perform 20,576 procedures at the SDH and that volume is predicted to increase by over 1,000 procedures annually, reaching 26,365 by 2017.
The project is expected to cost nearly $322 million and should take 42 months to complete. The new center will include 12 operating rooms, four of which will accommodate robotic equipment. Staffing at the center will create about 280 new jobs among a projected 408 FTE workers.
