Iowa hospital officials have expressed concern about a proposed bill that would weaken the state's Certificate of Need policy and they feel make it easier for the development of new ambulatory surgery centers, according to a report from the Omaha World Herald.
The senior vice president for government relations for the Iowa Hospital Association told the Omaha World Herald that hospital officials believe new ASCs will hurt community hospitals by taking profitable service lines out of the hospitals. Supporters of the bill believe it would help boost employment, according to the report.
The comments come after Iowa lawmakers met with hospital officials during the Iowa Hospital Association's Legislative Day.
