Illinois Surgery Centers Present New Options for Patients

Surgery centers are growing in popularity in Illinois as patients choose to undergo surgery in a more convenient location than a hospital, according to an Elgin Courier News report.

The report highlighted several surgery centers in the Fox Valley, Ill., area, including Valley Ambulatory Surgery Center, one of the oldest independent, for-profit ASCs in the state. The center opened in 1987 and added a nine-bed Valley Medical Inn in 1997, where patients can spend a night or two under the supervision of nurses.

The report also highlighted two new surgery centers in the area — Elgin SurgiCare, part of a chain of seven medical centers and nine MRI/CT/X-ray centers owned by Chicago physician Naser Rustom, MD, and the Center for Advanced Medicine and Surgery, which is still under construction.

Other surgery centers in the area include Elgin's Endo Center, which performs colonoscopies and minimally invasive gastrointestinal operations, and Elgin's Valley Surgery Center, which performs plastic surgery procedures. Other ASCs include Tri-Cities Surgery Center, a joint venture of Delnor Hospital and a group of local GI physicians, the Center for Surgery in Naperville and the Algonquin Surgery Center.
