Health insurance giant Highmark recently announced plans to build an ambulatory surgery center in the Monroeville-Murrysville area of Pennsylvania, one of 10 outpatient centers the insurer plans to build in the western part of the state, according to a Pittsburgh Business Times report.
The first center is preparing to open at Murrysville Professional Commons on Old William Penn Highway.
The plans were announced after Highmark announced its affiliation with Monroeville-based Premier Medical Associates, the largest independent physicians' practice in western Pennsylvania. Premier employs approximately 60 physicians, including a dozen hospitalists who work at Forbes Regional Hospital.
Highmark's chief rival, the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, has had an outpatient surgery center in Monroeville for years, according to the report.
