HCA has reported its first quarter 2012 results and reports that outpatient volumes saw an increase over the same quarter last year, according to a Market Watch report.
HCA's revenues in the first quarter increased to $8.405 billion, compared to $7.406 billion in the first quarter of 2011. Revenue growth was driven primarily by increased volume, two adjustments related to Medicare revenues for prior periods and the financial consolidation of its HealthONE venture.
Patient volume in the first quarter of 2012 reflected strength in the company's inpatient admissions and outpatient and ER visits, according to the report. Same facility equivalent admissions increased 4.8 percent in the first quarter of 2012 compared to the prior year period, reflecting increases in both inpatient and outpatient volumes.
As of March 31, 2012, HCA operated 164 hospitals and 109 freestanding surgery centers.
