Chattanooga, Tenn.-based Erlanger Health System won't appeal its denied request for a $9.8 million surgery center and radiation oncology services in North Georgia, the Chattanooga Times Free Press reports.
Here are four insights:
1. The Georgia Department of Community Health denied Erlanger's request for a certificate of need in March, saying the project wasn't needed because of the several outpatient surgical service providers in the area.
2. Erlanger had proposed a $9.8 million surgery center in Ringgold, Ga. Chattanooga-based CHI Memorial, which bought an ASC from the former Hutcheson Medical Center on the same street, challenged Erlanger's request.
3. Erlanger said the center's CON expired when the building sat idle.
4. In an Aug. 6 statement, Erlanger Vice President of Operations and Market CEO Tanner Goodrich said the hospital system will explore other ways to "provide even greater access to world class care in Catoosa County and North Georgia."
