Schenectady, N.Y-based Ellis Medicine is seeking regulatory approval to build an ASC in Clifton Park, N.Y., according to Times Union.
Here are six things to know:
1. Ellis Medicine is pursuing its ASC plans after experiencing success with a Clifton Park-based emergent care center the health system opened in 2012. The center has seen an influx of patients since opening, propelling Ellis Medicine to propose plans for the surgery center.
2. Healthcare demand in Clifton Park is booming. Town Supervisor Phil Barrett estimated healthcare investments in the region have totaled $100 million in recent years.
3. Ellis Medicine is joint venturing on the ASC with its medical staff. Ellis Medicine created a new entity, Ellis Surgical Specialists, which will own 95 percent of the ASC. Plastic surgeon Lucie Capek, MD, will own 5 percent.
4. The health system proposed adding the ASC to an existing Clifton Park-based Ellis Medicine medical office building via a ground-level connection.
5. The $13.6 million ASC would be 40,000 square feet and house two operating rooms, with room to expand to four ORs.
6. Ellis Medicine anticipates the ASC will perform 1,500-plus procedures in the first year of operation.
