Raleigh, N.C.-based Compass Surgical Partners and a group of physicians sold a majority stake of Clearwater, Fla.-based Safety Harbor Surgical Center to Addison, Texas-based United Surgical Partners International.
Here's what you should know.
1. Compass acquired a minority interest in the center in 2012, when the center was struggling to stay open.
2. During five years of Compass affiliation the center corrected course, performing approximately 30,000 procedures and implementing a new efficiency program, which helped to stabilize the center.
3. SHSC member Dana Deupree, MD, said, "Compass was an outstanding partner that has the respect of our entire team. They built trust with our group quickly. In my opinion, Compass was the only team for the job."
4. Compass said, in a statement, it was honored to work with the center and help the center return to viability. Compass Surgical Partners President and COO Sean Rambo said, "Our mission is straightforward: create high-value partnerships that deliver superior surgical care while improving each local community. We are proud to have achieved all three of our goals in this partnership."
