New York City-based NYU Langone Medical Center is affiliating with Mineola, N.Y.-based Winthrop-University Hospital, which will expand the hospitals' network of ambulatory surgery centers, according to HealthCare Business.
Here are four key points:
1. NYU Langone operates more than 150 ASCs throughout New York.
2. Winthrop has recently opened new ASCs throughout the state including an ASC in Garden City, Specialty Center East in Deer Park and a NYC CyberKnife Center in Manhattan.
3. HealthCare Business reports the affiliation will expand NYU's presence in Long Island while also bolstering support for Winthrop's network of outpatient as well as inpatient services.
4. Robert I. Grossman, MD, dean and CEO of NYU Langone, said, "We have been working closely with Winthrop over the last several months to assess whether a partnership between our institutions would benefit each of our organizations, as well as the patients and families who turn to us for help. We quickly realized that an affiliation would allow our institutions to enhance the range and quality of services offered to the residents of Long Island, as well as grow key ambulatory services and the physician network across the region, with Winthrop as the primary inpatient hospital."
