Here are 10 new surgery centers planned, developed or opened in the last several weeks, according to various news reports.
1. New California surgery center included in San Carlos Medical Center. Palo Alto Medical Foundation, a Sutter Health affiliate based in Mountain View, Calif., has announced it will break ground on a new medical center in San Carlos, Calif., that will include an outpatient surgery center, according to a news release. The PAMF San Carlos Center will be constructed in two phases.
2. New Washington surgery center under consideration for Richland. A new outpatient surgery center is under consideration for Richland, Wash. K. Blair Sampson, MD, has a purchase and sale agreement for property in Richland and may turn it into an ASC with office space.
3. Johnson Memorial to open new surgery center at end of April. Johnson Memorial Hospital will open the first phase of its surgery center April 30. The $14 million expansion and renovation project has added operating rooms as well as new space for surgical preparation and recovery. According to Bill Oakes, director of business development, the surgery center will enhance the hospital's abilities to perform surgery and allow greater use of new technology.
4. New Maryland surgery center set to open in Fort Meade. Kimbrough Ambulatory Care Center in Fort Meade, Md., is scheduled to open a new outpatient surgery center in Fort Meade in May. The $18.2 million surgical center features four surgical suites. Physicians at the surgical center will perform procedures in a number of specialties including ophthalmology, ENT, urology and orthopedics.
5. New York's Olean General Hospital set to open surgery center. Olean (N.Y.) General Hospital is scheduled to open a new ambulatory surgery center in Olean in May, according to a hospital report. The Olean General Hospital Outpatient Surgery Center, which will be located across from the hospital's main campus, is a $10.3 million project consisting of a more than 15,000-square-foot addition and a complete renovation of about 6,400 square feet of existing space.
6. New Missouri ophthalmology surgery center comes to St. Charles. A new ophthalmology surgery center has been built in St. Charles, Mo., according to a report from A.J. Brown, the company behind construction of the facility. St. Charles Surgery Center is owned and operated by Drs. Victor Clever, Joseph Clever and Joseph Gira. It features two surgery suites.
7. Colorado's Poudre Valley Health System breaks ground on new ASC. Poudre Valley Health System, based in Fort Collins, Colo., has broken ground on a new ambulatory surgery center in Greeley, according to a news release.The ASC will be included in a new 22,000-square-foot facility. In addition to the same-day surgery center, the facility will include an emergency care center. The surgery center will feature two operating rooms.
8. Tennessee's Maury Regional Medical Center seeks approval for ASC. Maury Regional Medical Center in Spring Hill, Tenn., plans to get approval for an ambulatory surgery center. Work has been underway for months on a $7.9 million, 62,365-square-foot Maury Regional Medical Center facility near Port Royal Road and Reserve Boulevard. The facility includes primary care, walk-in and specialty clinics, physical therapy and a radiation oncology center.
9. New York surgery centers approved for Brooklyn and Harrison. The New York Public Health and Health Planning Council has approved new ambulatory surgery centers for Brooklyn and Harrison, N.Y. The Brooklyn Surgery Center will feature two operating rooms and seven procedure rooms. Eleven surgeons will be members of the center, and they will perform procedures in a number of specialties including orthopedic surgery, gastroenterology and urology.
10. Georgia's Piedmont Newnan Hospital to open new surgery center. Piedmont Newnan (Ga.) Hospital is awaiting state approval to open an ambulatory surgery center on its new campus in Newnan. The hospital plans to close the Piedmont Ambulatory Surgery Center located on the hospital's former Newnan campus on April 20. The hospital is planning to then open a new Piedmont Ambulatory Surgery Center on its new Newnan campus on April 26, pending state approval.
